The Everest region of Nepal is among the most famous and appealing trekking destinations in the world. Home to the world’s tallest mountain peak, the Khumbu is home to a myriad of natural, Himalayan and cultural hallmarks that define the northern Nepali diaspora.

There are several trekking options available for the Everest region. Among them, the 20 days Everest Three Passes Trek presents trekkers with meandering pathways that rise-and-fall as they snake through the low-lying foothills towards three High Mountain Passes of the Khumbu region.

 

Throughout the trip, trekkers are presented with breath-taking sights of the gaping open valleys, wide Himalayan pastures, and towering peaks that shadow over snug villages.

It is a journey filled with many natural facets that blend in perfectly with the cultural aspects of the region.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu [1,300m/4,264ft], O/N at 3-Star Hotel

  • Altitude: 1345m/4412ft
  • Highlights: Explore the pandemonium of the Kathmandu city, the capital of the Himalayan Country
  • Accommodation: Kathmandu 3 Star Hotel
  • Meals: Dinner

You may arrive at the airport at any time. When you arrive, one of our company’s airport representatives will be waiting for you when you do.

You will be transferred to the Hotel for your check-in. Overnights stay at the Hotel in Kathmandu. Included: Dinner and Accommodation.

Day 02: Kathmandu: sightseeing and trek preparation. O/N at 3 Star Hotel

  • Highlights: Guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites
  • Accommodation: Kathmandu 3 Star Hotel
  • Meals: Breakfast

This day is reserved for a sightseeing tour of the city’s major UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will visit the holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the Boudhanath Stupa, the Swayambhunath Stupa, and the Kathmandu Durbar Square.

After the tour, you will be dropped back to your Hotel. Overnights stay at the Hotel in Kathmandu. Included: Breakfast and Accommodation

Day 03: Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding [2,651m/8,700ft]: 40 min flight, 3-4hr trek. O/N at teahouse

  • Altitude: 2,860 meters
  • Highlights: Enjoy the cultural ambiance of the villages as you trek back through the traditional pathway
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Early in the morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your Lukla flight. The short flight to Lukla is great for enjoying aerial views of the mountain peaks. Upon landing at Lukla, you will trek to the village of Phakding.

Phakding is a small village that caters to trekkers who often use it as an overnights stop. The village also presents a beautiful view of the Kusum Kangraru Peak. Overnight in Phakding. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazaar [3,438m/11,280 ft]: 5-6hr, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Altitude: 3,438m/11,280 ft
  • Highlights: Trek through the Sagarmatha National Park’s alpine woodlands towards the “Gateway to Everest”- Namche Bazaar, Enjoy views of Himalayan Peaks like the Thamserku and the Kongde RI

From Phakding, you will continue your journey towards Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a bustling commercial hub of the region. Due to its strategic location, Namche was a perfect stop for Tibetan and Nepali traders in ancient times.

Overnight in Namche Bazaar. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 05: Namche Bazaar: Rest and acclimatization, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Altitude: 3,438m/11,280 ft
  • Highlights: Visit the Everest View Hotel and the Syangboche Airstrip, Explore the town
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

This day is reserved for acclimatization. Namche Bazaar is a great place for acclimatizing. You can visit the Everest View Hotel today that is situated a few distances away from the town.

You can also visit the Syangboche airstrip today, located above the town. From here, you can get a panoramic view of the town that looks like a natural amphitheater dug into the hillside.

Overnight in Namche Bazaar. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 06: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche [3,860m/12,660 ft]: 5-6hr, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Highlights: Visit the Tengboche Monastery

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Further trekking along the Dudh Koshi valley from Namche, you will be passing by Phungki Thanka, and making your way from Pheriche to the village of Tengboche. Crossing a suspension bridge over the Imja River, you will make your way through the trans-Himalayan woodlands into the village situated on the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and the Imja Rivers.

Here, you can also visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, a spiritual center of the region and the largest Buddhist shrine of Khumbu. The monastery is also the site of celebrating the Mani Rimdu Festival. Overnight in Tengboche. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 07: Tengboche to Dingboche [4,360m/14,300 ft]: 5-6hr, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Highlights: Enjoy the view of soaring mountain peaks like Taboche, Mount Nuptse, Mount Cholatse and many others

Trekking through alpine woods overshadowed by tall ivory peaks, you will cross a suspension bridge over the Imja River and pass through the village of Pangboche on your way to Dingboche today.

Dingboche is situated in the Imja River Valley and is also famously known as “the summer valley” of the region. Overnight at Dingboche. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 08: Dingboche to Chhukung [4,750m/15,580 ft]: 3 hr, O/N at Tea Hotel 

  • Altitude: 4,750m/15,580 ft
  • Highlights: Enjoy views of the Island peak and the Ama Dablam among others
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

You will leave Dingboche, passing through stone-walled fields that then open out to the Imja Khola valley. Views of the Lhotse Peak on your left and the Ama Dablam on your right add to the natural charm of today’s journey. After walking for about 3 km, you will reach the yak pasture of Bibre.

You will reach Chhukung in about half-an-hour trekking from Bibre. Overnight at Chhukung. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 09: Climb Chhukung RI [5,546m] and trek back to Chhukung: 4-5hr, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Altitude: 5,546m
  • Highlights: Enjoy panoramic views of the Everest Peaks from the vantage point of Chhukung RI
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

From the village, you will follow the dirt path towards the rocky knoll of Chhukung RI. From the top of the vantage point, you are presented with stunning views of peaks like the Lhotse, Island Peak, and Amadablam, Makalu and several others, including Baruntse. After taking in the views, you will return to Chhukung. Overnight at Chhukung. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 10: Cross to Kongma La pass [5,535m/18,159ft], trek to Lobuche [4,940m/16,210ft]: 6 – 7hr, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Highlights: Cross the High Mountain Pass of Kongma La
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

You will leave very early this morning after an early breakfast to cross the small stream behind Chhukung and slowly climb up through the landslide area towards the mountain pass. The terrain gets steeper as you trek to the grassy hill from where Dingboche and Tengboche are visible.

You will follow the trail until you come to the ridge from where you can the sliver of a small lake. From there, it is a steep ascent to the Kongma La. From the summit of the pass, you can see splendid views of the mountain peaks, and many in Tibet as well.

Descending sown, you will finally reach Lobuche. Overnight at Lobuche. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 11: Lobuche to Gorakshep [5,170m/16,961ft], visit Everest Base Camp [5,364m/17,594 ft]: 6-7hr, O/N at Tea Hotel

This is one of the most anticipated days of the trek. You will be trekking to the base camp of Mount Everest today. From Lobuche, you will trek past the sparsely populated settlement of Gorakshep. From there, the path finally leads towards the base camp.

The base camp is where the Everest Expedition starts from. After sending time at the base camp, you will return to Gorakshep. Overnight at Gorakshep. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 12: Gorakshep to Kalapatthar [5,545m/18,192 ft], then to Lobuche [4,940m/16,207ft]: 8- 9hr, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Highlights: Enjoy the panoramic view of the entire Mount Everest massif from the vantage point of Kalapatthar

The vantage point of Kalapatthar is known for its panoramic view of the entire Mount Everest massif. The trek to Kalapatthar is usually made quite early in the morning before dawn. From the vantage point, the sunrise view amidst the Everest peaks is an ethereal phenomenon.

From Kalapatthar, you will make your way back to Lobuche, trekking along the same pathway as before. The journey downhill is easier than the trek uphill. Overnight at Lobuche. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 13: Lobuche to Dzongla [4,830m/15,850ft]: 3-4hrs, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Highlights: Take in mesmerizing Himalayan views of the Everest peaks like the Arakam Tse and Taboche among others
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Heading south out of Lobuche, you will follow the EBC trail until reaching a fork that leads to the top of the Thokla Pass. Taking right, you will hike around the ridge along the southern side of the Awi Peak.

The tail is well-curved and meanders westward, offering amazing views of the Arakam Tse Peak, the Cholatse Himal, and the Taboche Peak. Below the ridge, you can also see the frozen lake- the Chola Tso.

Eventually, following the trail up and down the valley, you will reach the village of Dzong La. Overnight in Dzongla. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 14: Trek to Gokyo [4,800m/15,580ft] via Cho La Pass [5,368m/17,611ft]: 7-8 hrs, O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Altitude: 5,368m/17,611ft
  • Highlights: Trek to the holy Gokyo Lakes by crossing the Cho La Mountain Pass
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Leaving Dzongla, trail snakes below Cholatse and continues further across some streams to garner a steep climb over the rocks to the ridge.

The Cho La Glacier sludge beyond the top of the ridge. You will walk across the icefall and ascend to the pass. The top of the Cho La Pass is marked by colorful prayer flags, and you are also presented with the view of the Cholatse Peak and the Ama Dablam, the Ngozumpa Glacier, and the Kyajo RI.

Then you will descend from the pass as you follow the snaking trail marked on occasions by stone cairns towards the grassy slope of Thaknak.

Further from there, the trail crosses the Ngozumpa glacier. Ahead, crossing the glacier moraine, you will finally reach Gokyo. Overnight at Gokyo. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 15: Rest day in Gokyo: Climb Gokyo RI [5,357m/17,575 ft], tour 4th and 5th Gokyo lakes: 3- 4hr O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Altitude: 5,357m/17,575 ft
  • Highlights: Enjoy amazing panoramic views of the Gokyo Peaks, as well as the Everest massif from the vantage point of Gokyo RI, Visit the holy Himalayan Lakes of the Gokyo Basin
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today, you will trek up the Gokyo RI, another famous vantage point of the region, although less-visited. Some trekkers also say that the panoramic views of the mountain peaks from the Gokyo RI are even more spectacular than that of Kalapatthar.

From the vantage point, you are presented with views of peaks like the Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse and Taboche. Down below, you can also enjoy the view of the jade lakes, the Ngozumpa Glacier and the tiny settlement of Gokyo. After taking in the views, you will then return and make your way to the Gokyo Lakes. Overnight at Gokyo. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 16: Gokyo to Marlung [4,210m/13,810ft] via Renjo La Pass [5,360m/17,585ft]: 7-8hrs O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Highlights: Cross the Mountain Pass of Renjo La
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today, you will trek to the Renjo La Pass early in the morning. You will leave the main trail of the Gokyo valley, and instead, follow the path to Renjo La that snakes by the Dudh Pokhari.

The trail continues down the ridgelines to reach Angladumba Tsho. Further ahead, you can see the Relama Tsho and Renjo Lake. Trekking through the narrow valley teemed with giant boulders, you will make your way to Lumde.

After an hour’s walk from the village, you will reach Marlung. Overnights stay at Marlung. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 17: Marlung to Namche Bazaar: 5-6hrs O/N at Tea Hotel

  • Highlights: Enjoy the spectacular sights of the Himalayas you trek through the changing alpine landscape

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Following the traditional route that had been followed for centuries by the Tibetan traders, you will descent from Marlung to Thame. Crossing the Bhote Koshi River, the path descends to Taranga. From there, you will reach the Langmuche Khola.

Crossing the bridge further on, you will reach Samde. Following down the steep path takes you to Thamo village, you will reach Namche. On the way, you can also visit the Khari Goma, which is the nunnery, at Thamo. Overnight at Namche Bazaar. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 18: Namche Bazaar to Lukla: 6-7 hrs O/N at Tea Hotel

From Namche Bazaar, you will follow the same pathway that you took before and make your way back to Lukla, enjoying jaded views of the mountain peaks. Overnight at Lukla. Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 19: Lukla to Kathmandu: 40min flight O/N at3 Star Hotel

  • Altitude: 1345m/4412ft
  • Highlights: Enjoy aerial views of the mountain peaks as you fly back to the city
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

From Lukla, you will say goodbye to the mountains for the last time and catch your flight back to the city. At Kathmandu, you can spend your time as you please, resting or shopping, as per your preference. Overnight in Kathmandu. Included: Breakfast, Dinner, and Accommodation.

Day 20: Final Departure

Approximately three hours before your scheduled flight, you will be transferred to the airport by one of our staff members from where you will depart. Included: Breakfast.
